Lodge
Ichobezi is a newly built, state of the art luxury
cruiser operating on both the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers. At 18 metres long and
decorated in tasteful African style, this unique boat offers the guest comfort,
space and excellent service. The vessel has four large twin en-suite cabins so
caters for groups of up to eight passengers. Each spacious guest bedroom has two
full size beds, a large sliding window opening onto the water , protective fly
screens to keep out insects, excellent 24 hour lighting , cupboards etc. The
bathrooms are beautifully fitted out with shower, toilet and hand basin.
The rear of the accommodation deck provides the area for easy embarking and
disembarking onto the smaller tender boats which are used for fishing and
excursions. Access to the entertainment deck is provided via two staircases from
the accommodation deck.
The elevated entertainment deck provides the
guest with an open dining area, a well appointed lounge area , and a bar area.
Breakfasts, lunches and dinners are served in a relaxed atmosphere on this
level. There is a full size kitchen with a quality chef producing excellent
meals. The whole area can be closed off in the event of bad weather. At the
front of the entertainment deck guests can enjoy elevated views of the surrounds
while bathing at the plunge pool or sitting on deck chairs overlooking the
river banks. This area is also equipped with a CD player and tape deck for audio
requirements.
Guests are accompanied by a crew of up to five who will navigate the river,
guide, cook and clean and generally provide a first class service during the
cruise. Two 12 foot tender boats with 40hp engines accompany The Ichobezi on its
travels. The Ichobezi is operated in conjunction with Ichingo Chobe River Lodge
a luxury tented Lodge located on Impalila Island offering seven large twin
Meru tents , all with thatched bathrooms en-suite, with a first class range of
boats with excellent Guides. It is the premier Lodge in the area and offers a
wonderful African experience.

GEOGRAPHY OF THE REGION: The confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers form
a point where four countries meet ,[ Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Zambia ] ,
a unique international experience. The nearest town is Kasane in Northern
Botswana and a mere 80km downstream is the mighty Victoria Falls which can be
reached by road in 90 minutes.
The narrow area between the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers is known as the Caprivi
Strip and includes Impalila Island . The Ichobezi operates out of Impalila
Island in conjunction with Ichingo Chobe River Lodge.
The Ichobezi is able to cruise along both the Chobe as well as the Zambezi
Rivers. The graceful Chobe River divides Namibia and Botswana and is
characterised by abundant wildlife both within the river itself and on its'
banks. On the Botswana side of the Chobe River is the famous Chobe National
Park, teeming with game that come down to drink from the waters below. In this
area guests can expect to see elephant, hippopotami, crocodile, buffalo, giraffe
and numerous antelope. The Ichobezi is able to moor overnight in the best game
viewing areas allowing visitors unique evening and early morning viewing.
The Kasai Channel links the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers and offers visitors
magnificent wetland scenery with excellent birding and some fine fishing..
The northern section of the Kasai Channel opens out into the mighty Zambezi
River, which divides Zambia to the north from Namibia to the South. The
territory here is characterised by faster flowing water and grassy vegetation
along the banks. Magnificent panoramic views from The waters here are world
famous for Tiger and Bream fishing. The Ichobezi is capable of cruising 120km up
the Zambezi River and is able to reach Katima Mulilo in Namibia for guest
arrivals or transfers.
Daytime temperatures in the region range between 28-35 degrees Celsius in summer
and 18-28 degrees Celsius in winter. Evening temperatures vary and can be cool
in winter. Rainfall is mainly between February and April. Please note that
Malaria does occur in the area and that preventative medication is advised.

ACTIVITIES: Both The Ichobezi and the Ichingo Chobe River Lodge offer, together or individually, a variety of activities as follows:
Leisure activities aboard The Ichobezi include lounging on the sun deck, wallowing in the plunge pool or sipping on cold refreshments at the upper deck bar.
ARRIVALS, DEPARTURES AND TRANSFERS:
Guests for both Ichingo Chobe River Lodge and The Ichobezi are collected by boat
from the Kasane immigration office and harbour in Botswana for the short trip
across the river. Kasane is readily accessible by road from both South Africa
and Namibia and in addition there are now frequent flights from Johannesburg to
Kasane. We are able to arrange for transfers from Victoria Falls or Livingstone
or Katima Mulilo or Kasane airport to KASANE HARBOUR where we collect all our
guests.
Private charters also regularly fly directly onto Impalila Island, where there
is an excellent 1400 metre all weather gravel airstrip. The
co-ordinates of the airstrip on Impalila Island are S17° 46' 48'' E025° 11'
23''. The reference is FBKE (Kasane 031 3.6nm). Customs and immigration are
cleared on the island.
