The Old Bridge Backpackers
Maun |
10 km out of Maun on the edge of the Okavango, overlooking
the hippo pool is “The Old Bridge" Backpackers. A place created with the
knowledge and understanding that comes from years of experience in the
backpackers trade. Hosts endeavour to provide a comfortable base from which you
can enjoy the varied amazing activities that this region has to offer. There
is
a leafy lawn camp site for travellers with their own tents and a few drive in
sites with power points. There is one site for larger groups. The dorm sleeps
eight people, is spacious and has dividers for your privacy. There are
riverside tents made up as either doubles or twins. En-suite rooms will be
completed soon.
Host kitchen opens at 7 in the morning and closes at 9 at night and serves good
value meals for all tastes. For those who prefer to self-cater there is a
tastefully built fully equipped kitchen. There is a popular and sometimes
festive bar set between old weathered lead wood logs. Evenings are dimly lit
with good music floating in the air. You will always find a fire on a cold
winters night and a cozy TV lounge that may be used on request. Situated
between the main building and the campsites you find open air, hot showers and
flush toilets built entirely out of natural materials and which are always
kept spotless. A friendly staff who hosts consider to be the biggest asset will
ensure that you have nothing but fond memories to take home.
HORSE TRAILS: Early morning and sunset rides are available. Overnight and
two night delta rides can be arranged for up to six people.
SCENIC FLIGHTS: An overview of the islands and waterways of the Okavango
gives you an insight into the shear size and beauty of host wetlands and the
Wildlife they support.
BIRD WATCHING WALKS: One of host local bird experts and guide Rodger
Hawker takes two hour walks along the Thamalakane River - And frequently will
spot and identify up to sixty different species of birds.
SUNSET CRUISES: A sunset boat cruise down the Thamalakane river whilst
viewing game in the Maun wildlife sanctuary is a nice way to end your day.
