On
your way to Sossusvlei you will find at Barchan Dune Retreat congenial hosts,
excellent cuisine and something special: a lodge built into a dune with
elegantly furnished rooms. Relax a day or two to at Barchan Dune Retreat to
enjoy the quietness of the mountains and the beautiful environment of the
Namib region, the boundless view over our valley from the sundowner bar on top
of the dune and at meal times from the dining room windows.
Hannetjie and Willem van Rooyen, your hosts, are originally from the north of
Namibia, but many years ago fell in love with the Namib Desert around
Sossusvlei. Today they love to show their guests this grand and beautiful
countryside with its soft colours, the wide open planes, the mountains and
the great dunes of the Namib. For recreation hosts offer farm drives, hiking
trails, or you could climb our mountains in the morning to see the sun rise.
They can take you up Spreetshoogte Pass for a sundowner and offer - for their guests exclusively - a drive to
a farm for sundowner and watch the the
sunset from this hill in the midst of the Namib Desert: a wonderful
experience you will never forget.
Hosts
offer a trip to Sossusvlei: an early start to be at Sossusvlei for the
sunrise. A hearty breakfast follows, after which you can climb Dune No. 45,
surrounded by the highest dunes in the world. After stopping at Sesriem Canyon
proceed to Sesriem Camp to have a coffee break and then home to Barchan Dune
Retreat for a late lunch.

Directions:
From Windhoek via Rehoboth (210km)
From Windhoek drive on the B1 in the direction of Rehoboth (90km tarred road).
Four Kilometers outside Rehoboth turn to the right at the sign KLEIN AUB. Drive
on the C24 (gravel road) till you reach the sign NAUCHAS on the right hand side
turn off on the C1261. Stay on the D1261 till you reach Nauchas, then turn to
the right at the sign SPREETSHOOGTE on the D1275.
After the Spreetshoogte Pass it is another 20km till you reach the sign of
BARCHAN DUNE RETREAT on the left. After the entrance it is 3km to Barchan.
From Walvis Bay (240km)
From Walvis Bay drive on the C14 in the direction of SOLITAIRE. You will pass
the KUISEB and GAUB PASSES. Stay on the C14 till you reach the sign
SPREETSHOOGTE/NAUCHAS sign on your left. Turn to the left on the D1275. 15
kilometers from the turn off at the junction turn to the right at the sign
BARCHAN DUNE RETREAT. After the entrance it is 3km to Barchan.
