Tambuti Lodge Rundu |
Tambuti Lodge is located
in northern Namibia, in town Rundu, near border with Angola.
Lizza, Patrick and Joyce welcome you with warm African hospitality. Our clean
whitewashed spacious 8 Bungalows all overlooking the mighty Kavango River.
Tambuti is a small Lodge beautifully perched above the Kavango River
overlooking the floodplain. We are one of the rare lodges looking at the river
without getting wet feet, thus we are also open during the flood season, all
year round. Conveniently located on the small road leading down to the river
from the center of Rundu town (400m from most banks and shops).
Accommodation is in eight white washed bungalows perched in a lush garden
situated above the Kavango River.
All bungalows include, telephone, TV and Satellite channels, Wireless internet
hotspot, Fridge, En-suite showers, double Queensize beds (with Back & Neck
friendly mattress) Mosquito net and Mosquito tight screens at windows.
Bungalows 1, and 5 to 8 have a shower and a bath. Air-condition is available
at a small fee (In line with our eco-guidelines).
Activities and services
We have a Small
restaurant specializing in local traditional “African cuisine” and drinks
sourcing local ingredients. This gives the lodge guests the opportunity to
explore local flavors, add value to local products, and support the local
communities providing the ingredients while considerably reducing the food
miles.
Sunset cruises can be organized in advance in partnership with the Samsitu
Camp 15 km outside Rundu located directly in the Kavango floodplain. Duration
is two hours, drinks can be purchased at cheap cost prices on the boat
(departure 16.00 hrs local winter/17.00hrs local summer times).
Tambuti is encouraging self-drive tours to the nearby living museum which can
be combined with the above sunset cruise or on its own.
Swimming pool
Kayaks are available for self-exploring the floodplain
A laundry service is available at an affordable price (by prior arrangement
with the staff)
On-site secure parking
Tambuti was renovated and is under the personal management of the new owners
and the ideal stop over before heading to the deeper Kavango and Caprivi wild
bush to the unique KAZA area (Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation
Area).
Also ideal for a business stop over. We have a small restaurant specializing
in local traditional African food and drinks (pre-booking of dinners
recommended).
Carbon footprint
We are trying to have the smallest carbon foot print as possible and have
installed solar water heating and solar electricity powered lights.
(Only a few lodges in our sun bathed country will give you that peace of mind
during your stay). Our septic tanks use bacterial cultures (no flushing into
the river).
How to get to Tambuti Lodge
The B8 is the main artery on which people arrive and depart, though it
actually skirts the town of Rundu.
You must turn off at the buzzing Engen service station and Wimpy shop to get
right into Rundu itself. Taking this turn brings you right past the sports
stadium on your right and to a four way stop junction (having another two
petrol stations on your left and right hand side). Here you see the first big
signboard for Tambuti Lodge.
Tambuti is only 1,2 km from here. After 500 m you meet a three way stop. On
both your left and right hand you have many shops, with a “Total station” next
to a SPAR supermarket and a shopping mall on your right hand.
Continue straight on, and you eventually meet the old river road at a
T-junction facing Omashare Hotel. Turn straight to your left and follow the
signboards of Tambuti Lodge which is only 400 m form here on.
After 200 m you turn right to a small gravel road leading down to the river.
You will pass the Ministry of Forestry’s nursery before reaching Tambuti Lodge
on your left hand side.
