Ohakane Lodge Opuwo |
The Ohakane Lodge & Safaris has, as tour operator the only permanent Lodge in the Kaokoland where clients can unwind before, during or after every tour. Because every tour starts and ends at Opuwo, clients do not have to spend endless days en route to the Kaokoveld, but are in the Bush atmosphere immediately upon leaving Opuwo. Hosts have full workshop facilities in Opuwo, and should there are any problems en route, help will not be a long way off. Hosts are also in a permanent radio contact with Opuwo and are affiliated to Med Rescue flying medical services.

The Ohakane Lodge is named after the Ovahimba word for the African Wild Dog. This wild animal has recently been added to the list of the endangered species in Namibia, after having been hunted virtually to extinction. The Wild Dog has incredible stamina. It is known for its tenacity and excellent group hunting skills. It is sometimes called the clown of the carnivores on account of its colourful, striped fur.
