Camp Aussicht Kaokoland |
Lodge & Camping site
Kaokoland, northern Namibia
Welcome to Camp Aussicht in Kaokoland, one of Namibia’s best kept secrets.
Situated in the middle of lovely nowhere in the north-west of Namibia, Camp
Aussicht ("Camp with a View") offers exactly what it’s name promises:
spectacular views of Damaraland and Kaokoland.

Marius Steiner will gladly make your stay unforgettable. Whether you are
camping and self-catering or staying in the small lodge.
Camp Aussicht is also a wonderful stop over on your way to Epupa and/or
Etosha. Warning: you will
definitely book.
Camp Aussicht sits on top of a hill overlooking Kaokoland to the west.
Originally practically single handedly built as a dioptase mine (a rare
mineral found only here and in Russia) Marius Steiner started a small lodge
and camping site.
There are rooms availalbe which are environmentally
friendly.

Breakfast and dinner are served either on the terrace or in the dining room.
Current (220V) is available for charging batteries and appliances.
Just above the lodge area you’ll find the perfect camp spot. There are camping places with enough room for your car, tent and braai (barbecue).
Himba and Herero villages at Camp Aussicht
Himba and Herero live scattered around the wider Camp Aussicht area. Marius Steiner functions as a local advisor and offers guided tours to these remote villages. You will meet tribes which aren’t spoilt yet by too much tourism. Marius also set up a doctor’s post and home for visiting doctors.

Himba tours
Reservations must be made in advance.
The Himba excursions depart in the
mornings after breakfast at +/- 08h30 - 09h00 from Aussicht Camp.
The excursion returns before lunch at +/- 13h00.
Bottled water is provided during the
excursion.
Local Camp Aussicht guide Marius Steiner communicates with Himba and
translates to the guests. He also gives an in-depth explanation of the Himba
tradition and culture.
Also Mr. Steiner only does the self-drive Himba tours if the clients are only staying one night, the reason for this is because the Himba village is not near to Camp Aussicht, this way the clients can do the Himba tour and can then be on their way to the next destination, without having to drive all the way back to Camp Aussicht.
There is no option to do the Himba visit on the day of arrival unfortunately. No gifts must be brought along for Himba!
Wildlife & Mineral mine
In Damaraland you can see the rare desert elephants (if you’re lucky) and many
other species of beautiful wildlife. Also, Camp Aussicht is a nice stop over
on your way to Etosha National Park.
For lovers of minerals Camp Aussicht is a must see. Visit the dioptase mine at
the lodge or ask to see the new one on your guided tour.
