Wild At
Tuli Safaris: Island Camp |
Island Camp on Kwa Tuli
Private Game Reserve is one of Botswana's Best Kept Secrets.
Kwa Tuli Private Game Reserve is situated in Botswana's Tuli Block. This Land
of Giants includes the famous Tuli Elephants, Giant Mashatu Trees, 2000
year-old Baobabs, the oldest exposed rocks on the planet, the Mighty Limpopo
River and the most stunning landscape you could ever hope to see.
Home to almost 400 species of birds including the Pel's Fishing Owl, Black
Eagle, Martial Eagle, Kori Bustard and Ground Hornbill, the largest wild
elephant population under private ownership in Southern Africa, wildebeest,
impala, zebra, kudu, eland, waterbuck, brown and spotted hyena, honey badgers,
klip springers, aardwolf aardvark and warthog, as well as lion, leopard and
cheetah makes this a ‘must see once in my lifetime’ destination.
Wild At Tuli Safaris is not a package operation; it is an independent, highly
specialised, owner-run safari business. Experience, exclusivity and
flexibility are hallmarks of our safaris. Experience staying in a luxurious
tented camp on an island in the Limpopo River on Kwa Tuli Private Game
Reserve.
Whatever your interests are we will take them into account and introduce you
to the unique beauty of Africa at her unspoilt best.
Game drive, go on a walk, bird watch, go fishing, sleep in a hide at night and
just soak up what a TRUE wilderness is all about – you cannot leave this place
untouched by everything that it is.
Wild At Tuli Safaris is situated in the Tuli Block in south-eastern Botswana
near the Platjan Border post. The camp is on the Limpopo River in a
magnificent setting, 9 kms from the main district road
There are a number of ways to get to Wild At Tuli:
Fly to O.R. Thambo International airport in Johannesburg and then on to
Polokwane Airport. We can arrange for you to be collected from Polokwane and
driven to the Platjan Border post where we will collect you. The drive is
about 2 1/2 hours.
If you wish to fly all the way, you could charter a flight from Polokwane to
the Limpopo Valley airfield in Botswana and we will collect you there.
We are a 5 ½ hour drive from Johannesburg, South Africa on very good tar roads
up to the border. Travel to Polokwane, then on to Dendron, Vivo and Alldays.
From Alldays the Platjan Border is about 40km. From the border to the camp is
a good dirt road which does not require a 4 X 4 vehicle and is about 26 km. At
times the Platjan Border crossing is flooded so if you are driving, check with
us to make sure that the border is open. If it is closed you can be diverted
to the Pontdrif Border post where you are able to leave your vehicle safely
locked up, cross the border by cable car and we will collect you.

The Wild At Tuli Safari
camp is in the most magnificent setting on the banks of the Limpopo River on
Kwa Tuli Private Game Reserve.
Reached by a hanging bridge on an island in the middle of the Limpopo River is
an exclusive hideaway called “Island Camp”.
Nestled under the thick canopy of the riverine forest, eternally shaded from
the African sun lies four luxurious tents. The tents are large and roomy with
an “Out of Africa” feel with colonial furniture.
Each tent has its own beautiful bathroom with a Slipper bath and huge outdoor
shower.
Private viewing decks allow guests to enjoy the fascinating secrets of the
wildlife that visits the surrounding river.
The kitchen, dining room and lounge with a build-in fireplace are under
thatch, with the Boma under open skies for dining under the stars. Camp
attendants ensure you have everything you need and that your stay is relaxing
and special.
One of “Island Camp” highlights is the wonderful sounds. In summer the roaring
of the surrounding river and in winter the pre-dawn of bird songs starts of
the morning. Accompanied by the haunting cries of the Fish Eagle, Baboons bark
and screech and Hippo’s grunt. Elephant are quite likely to pass close by the
camp and the lack of sound from these gentle giants is at odds with their
immense size. If you listen carefully you may hear the ‘sawing’ noise of the
nearby leopard as he traverses the islands in front of the camp.
Finally, get to sleep under the soothing “Pels Fishing” and “Scops Owls”
calls.
You have two options when booking into Wild At Tuli:
Fully Catered - We provide all meals during your stay and are able to cater
for special dietary requirements as long as you let us know in advance. Game
Drives are included when you choose this option but you are also able to
self-drive on the Reserve.
The morning starts off with coffee, tea and rusks before we set off on the
early morning game drive. We pack a coffee box to take along and during the
drive we find a beautiful spot to stop and have morning tea. We then complete
the game drive before returning to camp for a sumptuous brunch. If you want
to, we will go for a walk in the morning, fish in the Limpopo or sit at one of
the hides and bird watch. The bird life in the Tuli Block is magnificent.
We serve a light snack before going out on the afternoon game drive and
towards sunset we stop at one of the hides or waterholes for a sun downer and
watch the sunset.
Back at camp it is time to freshen up with a hot shower before we meet around
the fire.
Dinner is a 3-course meal served in the dining room or out under the stars.
Self-Catering / Self Drive - We offer self-catering facilities in the camp
with access to a kitchen which has gas stove and fridge/freezer facilities. A
fire is lit in the boma every night and you can choose to cook outside if you
wish. We provide you with a map of the Reserve and you do your own game
drives. You are able to book Game Drives with us at an additional charge.
