Victoria Falls Hotel |
Victoria Falls Hotel: set in private gardens overlooking the Victoria Falls bridge and gorge, this majestic Edwardian-style hotel, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, is one of the most famous establishments in Africa. Having been refurbished, the hotel's 180 rooms and suites are all elegant, cool and very comfortable. A private pathway leads to the Falls, while the curio market and centre of Victoria Falls are just 500m away.

The Jungle Junction: During the late 1940's, the Solent Flying Boat service, offered by Imperial Airways, became one of the more interesting ways to travel to Africa. This service flew from Southampton, England to Johannesburg, South Africa. The Solents landed and were serviced on a reach of the Zambezi above the Victoria Falls. This stopover became known as the "Jungle Junction" and was soon the favourite stop on the route, as all passengers disembarked and stayed at The Victoria Falls Hotel. Breakfast and dinner buffets with Makishi dancers and an indigenous choir entertaining every night.
High Tea on the Terrace: Traditional high tea is served every afternoon on the Terrace, with spectacular views of the Victoria Falls bridge down the Batoka Gorge with the spray rising from The Falls. Later, enjoy one of the hotel's famous Livingstone cocktails or a gin and tonic whilst listening to the mighty roar of the Falls.
The Edwardian Pool: Cool off and enjoy the splendour of glorious Edwardian swimming pool set among beautiful landscaped gardens, overlooking the famous Victoria Falls bridge with panoramic views.
A Private Path to the Falls: David Livingstone, intrepid explorer, sighting the Falls for the first time from his dugout canoe, in November 1855, could hardly believe his eyes at such a spectacle. It is widely accepted that it was he who brought the discovery to the rest of the world; the Falls were named after his Queen Empress, Victoria. The hotel has its own private path to the Victoria Falls, which is less than a 10 minute walk away.
Recreational Facilities: There are two all-weather, floodlit tennis courts on site. A full range of other sports is available nearby, including an 18-hole, championship golf course at Elephant Hills Intercontinental (5 minutes drive from The Victoria Falls Hotel), Casino located at the Kingdom Hotel (5 minutes walk from The Victoria Falls Hotel); white water rafting; bungee jumping; canoeing; microlighting; game walks and drives; elephant back safaris; helicopter flights over the Falls and cruises on the Zambezi.
Amenities and Services: Same day laundry service, disabled accommodation, info@namibweb.com hire and touring desks, baby-sitting services, packed breakfasts & lunches for guests taking day excursions, hair salon, beauty therapist offering massage and a variety of other pampering beauty treatments, doctor on call, library and reading rooms, foreign exchange facilities, business centre for photocopying/facsimile and telex, E-Lounge for access to the Internet, 2 Curio Shops - one specialising in colonial memorabilia.
Wildlife and Adventures Abound: Enthusiasts can experience a selection of the area's wildlife on foot, by vehicle, in boats along the Zambezi River, on horseback - and even on an elephant. A Vintage train excursion, canoe safari, flight of the angels helicopter ride or visit to a traditional African Village all provide memorable experiences for travellers who especially want to complement the enjoyment of seeing The Victoria Falls. For the more adventurous there is white water rafting, bungee jumping and the Gorges Swing on offer! The Victoria Falls rainforest is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
