Built in 1996, Malagas Hotel is a 51 - room "Old Cape", styled establishment, including 6 cabins on the 'Breede River Queen' houseboat, which provides elegant accommodation, well-prepared meals and old- fashioned hospitality. Hosts' top priority is to provide host guests with tranquility and relaxation, that "home-away-from-home" atmosphere and complete peace of mind during your stay with us. The hand drawn pontoon which started operating in 1860 is still going strong today and this is a major attraction in the area. Whale watching season is from June to November each year. The Southern Right whales congregate here with their calves at the river mouth at Infanta. The calves come right into the mouth at the river and stay here for about 6 months until they have been weaned from the mother.

As most of the rooms are equipped with a fold up sleeper couch, hotel is able to offer extra accommodation should it be required. The meals are best described as "South African Home Cooking" and are designed to be tasty, wholesome and include many favourite traditional dishes. A selection of local wines are available to compliment your meal. A hearty full English breakfast is available and Pub Lunches are served at "Moxies Bar" & enclosed veranda or outside under shade or sun.

A sliding door opens onto a roomy outdoor cockpit area, which is ideal for fishing or just relaxing in the sun. There is an easy access platform with a ladder at the stern for swimming. The rooftop deck is ideal for tanning or bird watching. Host base is at Malagas Hotel, Malagas, Swellendam, Western Cape, South Africa. Hirers may sleep anywhere they choose within the designated overnight limits of the river – simply lower the anchor and make sure it is secured.
