Yellow Lodge
Stellenbosch |
Located in
a maple-lined street in historical Stellenbosch, the Yellow Lodge features
eight beautiful comfortable rooms. The attractive Dorp Street and the city
centre with its attractions and shops is only a few minutes walk from the
house. The Yellow Lodge is also located on the world-famous Stellenbosch Wine
Route with some of Stellenbosch´s best wineries and restaurants. The Lodge is
an excellent base for excursions throughout the winelands and to Cape Town.
Franshoek and Paarl are a short drive away, as are False Bay`s beautiful
beaches, while the international airport at Cape Town can be reached within 30
minutes via the highway.
Because of Stellenbosch`s growing interest to visitors from all over the world
the shopping centres feature exquisite boutiques and shops catering to every
desire. Galleries show and sell not only prime examples of Sub-Saharan art in
general, but also the work of very promising local artists. And the array of
souvenirs for sale covers the range, of course, from tacky to tasteful, as
everywhere. Serious connoisseurs of South African wines can make use of
reasonably priced shipping or post facilities to have their favourite
selections sent or shipped home.
The Yellow Lodge in Stellenbosch is an excellent starting point or "home base"
for excursions throughout the winelands and to Cape Town. Go for a drive
through the Jonkershoek Valley with indigenous fauna such as proteas and other
varieties of fynbos. At a designated parking spot, a hiking trail to a
romantic waterfall begins, leading along the Eerste River and past the
experimental fisheries station of the University of Stellenbosch. The
Four-Passes-Road takes you on a day`s excursion from Stellenbosch via
Helshoogte Pass - Groot Drakenstein Franshoek - Franshoek Pass - Viljon`s
Pass- Elgin - Grabouw - Sir Lowry`s Pass - Somerset West - Stellenbosch. The
tours leads not only through some of the most spectacular scenery in the
region, but also some interesting history: the French Hugenots fleeing from
France found a new home in Franshoek (the French Corner), bringing their
culinary specialties with them. Some of the finest wines in the world are
grown here. Near Elgin, you might discover the entertaining baboon family next
to the road. The relaxing drive through fruit orchards and up winding passes
is capped with a spectacular view from Sir Lowry`s Pass all the way to False
Bay on a clear day.
