halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, in the heart of the Garden
Route, lies the seaside town of Mossel bay. A bustling holiday resort in
summer and an ideal retreat in winter. Mossel Bay is second only to Hawaii for
having the mildest all-year climate in the world according to the Guinness Book
of Records. The Point Hotel is built right on the rocks above a huge natural
rock pool and overlooks the endless blue expanse of the Indian Ocean. From
your balcony you can watch the Humpback and Southern Right whales or the
dolphins passing. Apart from the safe swimming in the tidal pool, you can also
enjoy walking along Mossel Bay's wonderful coast line.
Accommodation: The property has an unique location built on rocks above
a huge rock pool and overlooks the endless blue expanse of the Indian Ocean. A
four star hotel consisting of 48 sea-facing en-suite rooms with private
balconies, will offer you the most exhilarating views. Rooms are equipped with
direct dial telephones, international plug points, TV with DSTV, ceiling fans,
panel heaters, lock-up safes and internet access in every room. The Hotel is
paraplegic friendly and all floors are serviced with a hydraulic lift and
serviced by surveillance cameras.
Conference Facilities: Caters for 90 people in cinema style and 65 people
in conference style layout. Situated next to the Lighthouse Restaurant the
facility is also used for private functions and Group arrivals. This facility,
with its spectacular views over the sea, is also an ideal venue for functions,
private dinners, weddings, etc.
The Lighthouse Restaurant: Perched on the rocks on the edge of the
Mossel Bay peninsula, just below the St Blaize lighthouse. The Point Hotel's
Lighthouse Restaurant must surely have one of the most dramatic settings in
the country. An A La Carte menu caters for all tastes, serving an assortment
of cosmopolitan fare. "Mediterranean Style" Pasta, chicken, Meat and Fresh
dishes are served daily. Open all day, "The Lighthouse" serves sumptuous
Breakfasts, Lunches and Dinners as well as Snacks throughout the day.
Walks and Hiking Trails: The start of the St Blaize walking trail is at
The Point Hotel and will lead you on the 30m contour 15km to Dana Bay.
Panoramic sea-views with a constant view of waves breaking on the rocks will
accompany you on your five hour walk. The Khoi-San Cave is the home of ancient
inhabitants. Artifacts have been discovered that date back 80 000 years or
more. The St Blaize Lighthouse( situated in very close proximity to The Point
Hotel) was erected in 1864. To date it is one of only two lighthouses on the
South African coastline manned 24hours daily.
Site Seeing: Mossel Bay offers a wide range of historic architecture, the
arrival of Bartholomew Diaz in 1488 was witnessed by the Khoi-San. A life Size
replica of his magnificent ship “Caravel” can be viewed at the Maritime Museum
other unique museums namely the Maritime Museum, and the world famous Post
Office Tree is a treat. Next to the Hotel is the War Memorial erected in
memory of those Mossel Bay citizens who gave their lives fighting wars.
Various art and craft shops, curio and specialty shops can be found in Mossel
Bay.
