Rainbow Glen Guest House is
located in Montagu, Western Cape. Take some time away from your busy
world and experience the charm of Montagu, the gateway to the Klein Karoo.
This peaceful town is steeped in History and is famous for its Hot springs,
Orchards, Vineyards and inspiring rock formations…come to Rainbow
Glen.. Rainbow Glen guest farm is located conveniently close to the
Cogmanskloof hiking trails and the guest has a splendid view of Kanonkop
from all of the cottages.
Guests may enjoy the pool on those hot summer days, there are also various
other games and activities for children and adults alike. There is the
enchanted fairy garden to wander through and the kids can get involved
during feeding times, when establishment feed the ponies, rabbits and chickens. Rainbow
Glen Guest Farm has six self catering cottages accommodating between 2 to 6
people each. Each unit has a private veranda and built in braai facilities.
Each cottage has a fully equipped kitchenette and all bed linen is provided
except towels.
There is also a luxury guest suite with its own lounge (including satellite
TV), dining area and separate kitchen. Nestled in the fertile valley at the
confluence of the Kinga and Kelsie rivers, surrounded by the Langeburg
mountain range one would discover the beauty that is Montagu. On entering
the town, one passes through the hole in the rock which is guarded by an old
English Fort, a relic of the Boer War. This peaceful town is steeped in
history and is famous for its awe inspiring rock formations, orchards,
vineyards and healing hot mineral springs. The town boasts many well
preserved Cape Dutch and Georgian national monuments.
Whether you are reclining in the relaxing water of the hot springs, dining
at one of the numerous and outstanding restaurants, engaging in one of the
many active pastimes the area provides or simply indulging is a spot of
reverie, the quaint friendly town of Montagu will satisfy your needs, whilst
all the while you will be surrounded by the rugged beauty and restful
splendor that makes this part of the world so special.
Hot Springs: The hot springs are located at the Avalon Springs Hotel. 43º
hot thermal & mildly radio active spring on the property fed into 5 outdoor
and one indoor pool + 4 spa baths. World famous for its curative properties
especially for skin ailments, arthritis, rheumatism and general aches/ pains.
"Miracle" cures documented since early 1800s.
Wine Tasting: Montagu is located on Route 62 the longest wine route in
the world. Historically the Montagu area was mainly known for its fine
Muscadel fortified wines, but today the choice has expanded to also include
Chardonnay, Colombards, Merlot and other modern cultivars.
Rock Climbing: Montagu has been proclaimed a climber’s paradise! The
climate in Montagu allows for all year climbing, although the summer can get a
little hot. Montagu has over two hundered climbs ranging from 4b (14) to 8b
(33). The official guide book for Montagu is Tony Lourens Western Cape Rock
published in 2004.
Hiking: A number of hiking trails are available throughout Montagu.
Bloupunt Hiking Trail: 16km/1 day or overnight; difficult; circular; overnight
hut available; 16 persons max; R20 per person per night. Cogman’s Kloof:
12km/1 day; average; circular; overnight hut available; R20 per person per
night.
Horse riding: There are a number of riding schools in the Montagu area.

Mountain biking: Montagu has a large number of mountain biking trails
on offer. Guided mountain biking trails in the foothills of the Langeburg
Mountains are available, give hosts a call and hosts can arrange everything for you!
4x4 Trails: For those avid 4x4 adventurists, the Waboomsburg trail
offers 80km of spectacular scenery of which around fifty percent is four wheel
drive country. Call hosts if you would like to go on a 4x4 trail and hosts can
arrange everything for you.
Museums: The Montagu Museum and Jobert house offer the visitor a
glimpse into the vivid history of Montagu. Jobert house also offers a unique
herb garden.
Tractor Rides: Before leaving Montagu be sure to experience the world
famous tractor ride up to the peak of the Langeburg mountain range and then
enjoy a traditional South African poitjie-kos meal.
Boat Trips on the Breede River: Hop on the Breede River Goose for an
idyllic Breede river boat trip, which offers the guest safe swimming from the
boat or try your hand at a little fishing. The Breede River is also a bird
watchers paradise! Hosts will be happy to arrange bookings for you.
