Lodge, Imvubu meaning hippo in Zulu, was inspired by the famous "Huberta the
Hippo" who undertook the historic journey from Zululand to East London, is the
latest addition to Protea Hotels in Zululand. Tucked away in the lush
greenbelt zone of Richards Bay, Protea Hotel Imvubu Lodge is adjacent to the
scenic Lake Menywa and the unspoilt beaches of the Indian Ocean. These
pristine surroundings make bird watching an extraordinary experience - a must
for all nature lovers! Protea Hotel Imvubu Lodge has been awarded a 3 star
self-catering grading by the Tourism Grading Counsel of South Africa and
offers luxury accommodation, a fine dining restaurant and technologically
advanced conference centre.
Protea Hotel Imvubu Lodge is conveniently located within close proximity to
the Tuzi Gazi Waterfront, the International heritage site of Lake St Lucia and
two world-class game reserves boasting the Big 5.
Hotel Rooms: Luxurious accommodation, in the form of 37 chalets, comprises:
10 standard chalets - 1 double bed, en-suite bathroom with shower, writing
desk and mini-bar. 18 superior chalets - 1 bedroom (2 single beds), en-suite
bathroom with shower, writing desk, fully equipped kitchen, lounge and outside
deck with braai facility. 7 deluxe chalets - 2 bedrooms (1 double bed, 2
single beds), two en-suite bathrooms, writing desk, fully equipped kitchen,
lounge and outside deck with braai facility. 2 lake view chalets - 2 bedrooms
(1 double bed, 2 single beds and 1 sleeper couch), two en-suite bathrooms,
writing desk, fully equipped kitchen, lounge and outside deck with braai
facility. Wheelchair-friendly units: 1 x Deluxe Chalet and 1 Superior Chalet.
All chalets are fully serviced and air-conditioned, with easy access to the private beach, television and DSTV. Telephone and laptop pc facilities in
selected units also available. 24-Hour security allows you to relax and forget
about the stresses of every day life whilst enjoying the tranquility of
nature.
Hotel Attractions: Protea Hotel Imvubu Lodge offers the following half-day,
full-day and tailor-made Tours, Trips and Activities:
Game drives, Deep sea fishing, Golf tours, Birding, Cultural visits, Scuba
diving, Crocodile farm visits, Canoeing, Horse riding, Tiger fishing and
Aerial walkway. Currently under development is the "bird and small animal
sanctuary", in conjunction with the local bird and wildlife associations, as
well as experts in nature conservation.
The entire estate will be fenced off - game reserve style - enabling us to
re-introduce small animals and re-habilitate the forest to its previous
pristine state. By doing so, hosts hope to attract even more birds to compliment
the already abundant bird life and may even be able to find a mate for the lonesome goliath heron. The sanctuary will encompass 18 hectares with
designated eco-trails, footpaths, hides and viewpoints.
Hotel Facilities: Wine & Dine: A stunning view to complement a
sumptuous meal, coupled with superb service and a romantic setting paves the
way for Protea Hotel Imvubu Lodge as the venue of choice for the discerning
diner. The restaurant, 300 square meters in extent, has stylist timber
furnishings and a spectacular view over Lake Menywa, offering fine dining and
breakfast, either buffet or a la carte, for in-house GUESTS (from 0h30 -
10h00) and is also open to all visitors wanting a lunch (12h00 - 15h00) or
special dinner (18h30 - 22h00). Tuck into cuisine with a traditional South
African flair and a delicate twist of culture. (No dinner available on
Sundays).
The newly created Sundowner Deck and Bar, "In the Reeds", offers a more
secluded and private function area for celebrating a special event closer to
nature, with a view of Lake Menywa and a possible sighting of the crocodile
which roams the lake. Leisure activities includes nature walks and a swimming
pool on site.
Conferencing Facilities: The Protea Hotel Imvubu Lodge Conference
Centre is able to comfortably seat up to 180 people banquet-style and caters
for a variety of functions including conferences, product launches,
presentations and weddings. The center is technologically advanced, fully
air-conditioned, with 5 small breakaway rooms and a entertainment deck,
overlooking Lake Menywa with a fully licensed bar.
