Situated in Eastern Botswana, some 68 km from Francistown, Modumela Lodge offers guests the African experience of a lifetime and the opportunity to experience Botswana in all of its' splendour. The main Lodge complex compromises a restaurant, bar, shop and reception is surrounded by modumela trees, overlooking a scenic dam. Situated on 1750 hectares of privately owned land, this setting is perfect for your African vacation. Offering game drives, nature walks, swimming and orienteering, Modumela Lodge is a "must do" destination for the whole family. Named after the magnificent and abundant white syringa trees on the property, Modumela Lodge offers comfort, relaxation and tranquility to anyone longing for a back-to-nature retreat and the ultimate African bush experience.
Accommodation at Modumela Lodge
Units have one bedroom with 2 single beds and also includes the following:
ceiling fan, one bathroom with shower, tea and coffee facilities, wooden deck
and mosquito nets.
Mopororo Chalet is a fully self catering unit which is equipped with electric
kettle, microwave, electric cooker, deep freeze and refrigerator. A two plate
gas cooker and whistling kettle also available while the resort awaits
installation of Botswana Power Corporation electricity.
The remaining five chalets are NOT self catering. You are not allowed to store
foodstuffs or prepare your own food in these units as this attracts ants etc.
which are difficult to eradicate due to the structure of these chalets There
is no fridge. Kindly note that breakfast and dinner daily for 2 people is
included at an extra rate for guests who occupy these chalets. The five
chalets are Mokobo; Mokomoto; Mothata;
Mohota and Moralla.
The unit size indicates the number of people that can be accommodated. The
first figure indicates the number of bedrooms separate from the other unit
facilities and the second figure how many people can be accommodated
privately. The third figure indicates the total number of people that can be
accommodated, which includes a sleeper couch that is only suitable for
children under the age of 10.
Butale is situated in Eastern Botswana, some 68 km from Francistown. Accommodation ranges from lodges to B&Bs: Cresta Thapama Hotel.
Attractions near Modumela Lodge
There are wood carvers, potters, tinsmiths and carpenters who make crafts you
can purchase.
There is DSTV in the Bar area.
Dumboshaba Ruins, situated near Masunga, about 42 km from the farm, are
smaller version of the Great Zimbabwe Ruins. These ruins date back to 1450 AD
and artifacts from the Middle Stone Age and Early Iron Age have been found.
The North East District offers some lovely hills. The rock paintings and
granaries are well worth seeing.
Directions to Modumela Lodge
When entering Francistown from Gaborone, you will get to the first traffic
circle. Continue straight, past the Game Shopping Complex. Continue straight
at the next traffic circle with the
Cresta Thapama Hotel on your left and the Pharma North Centre on your right. Continue through town, passing through a
number of traffic lights. When you reach the next traffic circle, continue
straight along the road to Bulawayo. You will pass Dumela Industrial Area on
your left. You will travel through two small villages, Tsamaya (approx 40 km
from Francistown) and Tshesebe (approx 54 km from Francistown). Approximately
5 km outside Tshesebe, you will see a large sign for MODUMELA Lodge on your
right (look carefully) and a small sign indicating the village of Butale. Turn
right towards Butale. Travel about 7 km along the all-weather road. The road
is accessible to sedan cars. After your 7 km journey, you will see our
"Welcome to Modumela Lodge" sign on your left.
Modumela Resort Management have kindly requested that guests travelling by
road should call and inform the resort of their impending arrival, when they
reach Francistown, as cell phone signals are somewhat erratic along the road.
This way the resort will know to meet you at the resorts gates in
approximately 45 minutes, as the gates are kept closed, for the protection of
the game on the farm.
Alerts
Our water is from a borehole and is safe to drink, however, we do recommend
that you drink only the water in the jugs provided in the chalets or the water
available from the bar. This water has been filtered. Mineral water may also
be purchased from the bar.
No credit card facilities are available at Modumela Lodge.
Please note that the resort will require a breakage deposit. The
resort will accept Rand based on the exchange rate. Modumela Lodge is located
in a malaria free area. If you are traveling through Botswana
though, it is advised to take the necessary precautions.
