Drive
through the splendour of the Groot Drakenstein, through its orchards,
vineyards and tranquil parklands, to a house that embodies the rich heritage
of the Franschhoek and Groot Drakenstein Valleys. Built in 1700s with its
distinctive Cape-Dutch gables that were enhanced by sympathetic Hubert Baker
renovations in 1907, Lekkerwijn invites its guests to stroll through the
peacock-adorned gardens, relax by the swimming pool and be charmed in its
classically furnished rooms. Lekkerwijn is an unforgettable base for the
single traveller, couples or parties of up to 12 to explore the delights of
the Franschhoek and Stellenbosch Valleys. This historic family home offers an
enchanting combination of bed and breakfast (single, double and twin)
accommodation in the Main House or self-catering in the Coach House to suit
all situations, occasions and budgets.
In-house Entertainment: Relax by the swimming pool, which is a the
perfect temperature at the end of a long day touring. Lekkerwijn has lots of
it's own fauna, the peacocks and guinea fowel will parade particularly at any
hint of being fed and Pashmina (host Stafordshire Bull-terrier) will try and
round them all up at the slightest opportunity. There are also two resident
owls who breed regularly. Wander round Lekkerwijn's park-like lands and see
some of the most stunning views of mountains in the wine country. The more
relaxed sitting room has a stereo and TV. Special wine tastings and dinners
can be arranged at the house by prior arrangement. The Coach House cottage is
ideal for couples with babies, establishment do baby sitting.

attractions: Wine estates, wine tasting, cellar tours, restaurants,
cheesery, charcuteries/delicatessens, arts, crafts & theatre, trout fishing,
golf, horseback riding, mountain hikes and climbing, history, health spa,
beauty treatments, etc.
Dining Hall: The entertainment hub of the house, the Dining Hall’s
highly polished antiques and impressive hearth are beautifully enhanced by
fresh flowers picked from the extensive gardens. Dinner can be provided by
prior arrangement.
A choice of Drawing Rooms: On both sides of the dining hall lie the two
drawing rooms. One is a comfortable, restful retreat, while the other serves
as a more formal and graceful receiving room.
Internal courtyard: The quiet, sheltered beauty of this established
garden offers the perfect spot for breakfast, afternoon tea or to kick off
your shoes and luxuriate in a book.
Bedroom 1: In the original master bedroom, this beautifully appointed
room with walk-in closet and luxurious en-suite bathroom and shower resounds
with the simple luxury of polished wood and fine linen.
Bedroom 2: In a spacious room off the internal courtyard, twin beds
face out over a tranquil garden whose peace is broken only by the cry of
Lekkerwijn-bred peacocks. This room has a modern en-suite.
Upstairs bedroom wing: Up the stairs of the airy lobby is the upstairs
bedroom wing that was added by Herbert Baker in 1907. Filled with paintings
and drawings by the Pickstone family, this former children wing offers
commanding views of the parkland and the valley.
Bedroom 3 (twin beds): The former Nursery looks over the valley towards
Franschhoek. The stylishly renovated en-suite bath and shower room has the
best vantage point of Lekkerwijn’s graceful oak-lined driveway.
Bedroom 4 (double) and bedroom 5 (single): Both bedrooms share the
recently renovated bathroom between them and look across the flower garden and
vineyards below towards the Drakenstein mountain range.
The Coach House: This delightful self-catering cottage is part of the
farm’s outbuildings. While offering a relaxed, more self-determined
environment the Coach House retains the simple elegance that embodies the Main
House. The Coach House’s double bed and day bed, sleeps up to 3 persons and
has a fully stocked kitchenette and dining area. The Coach house cottage also
has a TV and relaxing sitting room area.
