The hostel
was a former family home and today it still has the feeling of "home from
Home". It is situated in the suburb of Humewood opposite Kings Beach which is
the first beach from the City. Establishment is 150 m away from the beach and Windermere
Road is the second road off the main Beach Road. The suburb is quiet and
secure and in safe walking distance to many of the restaurants, pubs, clubs on
our beachfront. King's Beach is the closest hostel in Port Elizabeth to the
Boardwalk/Casino complex. A 5 min walk down to Beach Road takes you to our
Bayworld complex comprising the main Museum, Oceanarium and Dolphinarium.
Kings Beach Backpackers offers their guests clean, comfortable and friendly
accommodation right on Port Elizabeth's Beachfront. Hosts have 4 dormitory rooms
with three double bunks accommodation 6 people to a room; so in total they have
24 dorm beds. Each bed is fitted with a bottom sheet, pillow + case and a rolled
up blanket at the end of the bed. We do have extra linen and blankets but for
large groups our guests bring their own sleeping bags/duvets. We have two
double rooms sharing bathrooms and these rooms are fitted out with full linen.
We have a twin room comprising two beds also with linen supplied and sharing
bathrooms. Our en-suite double room is also a family room with a ¾ bed as well
as a double bed - all fitted with linen. We offer campers space in our back
garden which is safe and secure.
The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering. Hosts have an outside
BBQ/entertainment area and there is free wood available. Hosts offer laundry,
internet and lock up safe facilities. Our lounge is comfy with DSTV, CD
player, video and various games for those spending the evening relaxing. Our
manager David is always available to cook outside; he caters for groups
offering a traditional South African braai (BBQ) or potjiekos (meat and
vegetables cooked in a three legged pot over the coals) and in the evening we
have sundowners on the verandah or at the outside pub. Our guests also enjoy
hammock breaks in the garden.
Establishment offers off street parking in our front garden. Hosts have a full travel desk
and are agents for the Baz Bus and Intercape buses but assist with all bus
bookings, car rentals, overland safaris and our own local tours. We offer
tours to the Addo National Elephant Park, to a private game park Schotia for
night drives to experience close encounters with wild lion. Hosts arrange outings
to Kraggakamma Game park and also to Seaview Lion Park. Hosts offer township
tours which introduce our visitors to the local people and a different
culture; visit schools, artists, Nelson Mandela museum, shebeens (taverns)
Activities such as sandboarding, sea kayaking, boat cruises to St. Croix and
Bird Islands for whale, dolphin and penguin viewing can be arranged.
