beachfront, Humewood Hotel, offers what all promise and few achieve! Good old fashioned
service with wholesome food lovingly prepared by our dedicated team. With a
prime view of the beachfront. Privately owned and managed is what makes the
difference, our management team are always visible in the public areas and
are committed to making your stay at the Humewood Hotel one of the fondest
memories that you will have. We are the friendliest hotel in the 'Friendly
City'.
This international award-winning hotel will offer you the dream holiday or
business trip that you deserve. A beachfront land mark in Port Elizabeth
overlooking one of the most pristine beaches in South Africa (Kings Beach)
and Algoa Bay. Come on in and experience the fourth best coastal climate
world wide for tourism. Whatever you decide to do, the Humewood Hotel is
close to all the fabulous historical attractions of the settler city of Port
Elizabeth, which has become a premier resort destination for the discerning
holiday maker. From your well appointed bedroom you are able to look out
over the Indian Ocean where centuries ago Portuguese Navigators conducted
their daring voyages of discovery and today’s adventurers sail their wind
surfers, surf boards and yachts in the protected water of the fabulous Algoa
Bay. It’s all out there waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.
After a great day of discovery and excitement come back home to traditional
Old World cooking, the like of which you will only experience at the
Humewood Hotel. Our table is not only renowned, but also international award
winning. This is a family hotel in the old tradition with out all the
plastic box trappings of today’s materialistic world. Our bedrooms have been
decorated in pale golden paraffin wood fitting and wardrobes, with cane
furniture off setting the colour and adding that classic touch that cane can
do. All rooms are en-suite and are fitted with television, direct dial
telephone, ceiling fans (controlled from the comfort of your bed), tea and
coffee making facilities. A number of air-conditioned rooms are available on
request. Satellite television is available in the bar for those that want to
keep up to date on world news or sporting events.
Activities: The amenities available in Port Elizabeth and the greater
Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Area are unsurpassed. We are easily accessible
by road, air and rail (the airport and railway station are a mere three
kilometers from the hotel). Directly across the road from the hotel is Kings
Beach with vast expanses of golden beach frontage and rolling lawns. If
fresh water is more your forté, then the Mac Arthur swimming pool complex is
approximately 150 meters from the hotel offering a heated full size swimming
pool, a heated kids pool with water slides, and a natural temperature full
size swimming pool. Close to the hotel is Bay World which incorporates the
Oceanarium with daily shows, a snake park with daily handling
demonstrations, and the Port Elizabeth Museum all approximately five hundred
meters from the hotel.
Approximately eight hundred meters from the hotel is Port Elizabeth’s Blue
Flag beach, Humewood Beach which leads into the spectacular garden of Happy
Valley and the beach office adjoins should you need any help or guidance.
One and a half kilometers from the hotel, you are able to transform your
world at the Boardwalk Casino and entertainment complex. This complex offers
entertainment and shopping. As a service to clients outings to a wide
variety of destinations can be arranged with the aid of our competent hotel
team. The Eastern Cape boasts the big five (Lion, Elephant, Buffalo,
Cheetah, and Rhino) at a number of venues in a uniquely malaria free
environment. Within easy reach are a number of tour options including
excursions into the Garden Route, Graaff Reinet (Valley of Desolation), or
the Settlers trip (Grahamstown, Bathurst, and Port Alfred). There are a
number of local full day and half day outings within the Nelson Mandela Bay
with new and unique options becoming available on a regular basis.
In close proximity to the hotel are a number of sporting venues with the
only true Links Golf Course in South Africa, the Humewood Golf Club, being a
mere three and a half kilometers from the hotel. In and around Port
Elizabeth are a number of eighteen and nine hole golf courses each with its
own flavour and attraction. Port Elizabeth has in recent years become known
as the water sport capital of South Africa with the Splash Festival taking
pride of place every Easter. Whether it’s wide open sandy beaches, crashing
waves, a protected pool, or a well deserved sundowner under a shady beach
umbrella, the Humewood Hotel is your Mecca for fun and convenience.
