Greyt-on-Main Guest House Greyton |
At Greyt-on-Main
Guest House's
hosts treat every guest like a Royal as the focus of this establishment is on
personal service for everybody dining and accommodating at Greyt-on-Main. The
owners
attempt to achieve this by combining individual attention to the guests with
excellent food and most comfortable rooms. The spotlight falls on one of the
best restaurants in the Overberg which has recently been graded 4 (of 5) stars
by the Tourism Grading Council (TGCSA). Set in the H. E. Bapst building at 31
Main Street, as the name implies, the Greyt-on-Main has been transformed from
an otherwise dull and lifeless house into an elegant and tastefully
understated restaurant of formal decor, with
pastel blues predominant. No costs have been spared in elegant plate mounting,
cutlery and crockery, fixtures and fittings. The all-stainless kitchen with
its state-of-the-art appliances able to cater for 40 guests at regular
sittings, and more on functions. Modern and comfortable furniture corresponds
very well to antique cupboards and accessories, and the wall picturing
establishes a lovely connection from South Africa to Europe and to old times'
eating customs. Ceiling fans keep the place cool in summer; an open fire place
plus panel heaters all around warm it up in winter. Everything in starters,
soups, salads, vegetarian & pasta, main fish and meat dishes can be selected
a la carte, innovative desserts, and a selection of cheeses from the area
complete the offer. As a matter of principle the meals are always freshly
cooked which, of course, requires greater efforts in shopping at distant
markets and preparing the truly appetising food.
The Guest House:
It is not only the fine German-Continental cuisine, it is also the spacious
and comfortable rooms that attract visitors. They are all individually
accessible and screened off from the Main Street's noises. The average room
size is just about 24 square meters and so is larger than the average
elsewhere. The studio rooms (3, 4) accommodate an additional bed for children,
converted to a sofa when unused. Just to mention a few important trim details:
There is an air-conditioning unit in each room which will keep the temperature
down in the summer months, and under-carpet heating has been installed to set
warm temperatures in winter.
Bar fridges in all rooms provide alcoholic and non-aloholic beverages for a guests' delight, and coffee/tea facilities are available, as well.
Major South African programs can be watched on the rooms' television. It
should be noted that no TV is displayed in the lounge. Last but not least,
down-filled (twin) quilts and cushions as customary in many German and
European establishments are used for the (twin) beds and invite to a relaxed
and contented sleep. The en-suite bathrooms are likewise spacious and have
panel-closed shower compartments. Heated towel rails provide for an additional
comfort and keep the bathrooms warm when necessary.
Depending on the individual liking, the breakfast varies from Continental to
English and German, the latter including cold cuts, cheese and a cooked egg in
lieu of fried eggs with bacon. While lodging at the guesthouse, host visitors
may consider, for their convenience, a game of croquet or a boule competition.
Enjoy a night or two at the Greyt-on-Main Guest House, and you will feel like
a Royal with all these amenities! The Greyt-on-Main Guest House has been
graded, 4 (of 5) stars by the TGCSA and been rated highest by the Automobile
Association (Superior Accommodation).
