Clairewood Chalets Wilderness Western Cape |
Clairewood
Chalets
is surrounded by the majestic Outeniqua Mountains and is only 5 kilometers
from the vast stretches of beach at Wilderness in the Garden Route of South
Africa. This 16 hectares estate is a place of quiet contemplation, where
silence and solitude is measured by the harmony and tranquility of the Outeniqua mountains and surrounding indigenous forest which provides habitat
to nearly 200 species of birds and wildlife such as monkeys, bushbuck,
porcupine, bushpig and occasional otters. Host accommodation is the epitome of
luxury combining quality and simple refinement. Facilities on site include a
swimming pool, tennis court and walking trail through the forest that meander
along the banks of the Silver River.
Accommodation is rated AA Superior. Establishment has two serviced self catering
chalets each with two bedrooms; king-size or twin (sleeps 4 per chalet). Bath
towels, cotton percale linen, hairdryers and guest soaps are provided. Each
unit has a stylish bathroom with shower and bath facilities and an open plan
well equipped modern kitchen with oven, microwave and refrigerator. The lounge
with full satellite television and cozy fireplace has breathtaking views of
the lush green surrounding hills and nearby Outeniqua Mountains and leads
through stack-away doors to the patio with built-in barbeque. Each chalet has
its own safe.
Wilderness offers everything from canoeing, paragliding, hangliding, kite surfing, horse riding and fishing to bird-, whale- and dolphin watching. Various restaurants close by offer a variety of dishes. The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe steam train passes through Wilderness daily. Some spectacular view sites are Map of Africa and Dolphins Point above the mouth of the Kaaimans River next to the N2. Visit an 800 year old Yellowwood Tree near Hoekwil. Take a relaxing trip on a floating restaurant to the Knysna Heads whilst enjoying Knysna's oysters. Get up close and personal with elephants at the Knysna Elephant Park. Visit Oudtshoorn's Ostrich Farms, Cango Caves and Wildlife Ranch (where cheetahs and crocodiles can be observed close-up). Mossel Bay's has its own attractions like the Diaz museum and Seal Island where great white sharks are to be seen. For Golfers the area hosts some of the most scenic golf courses in the country including Fancourt where the 2003 Presidents Cup tournament was held.
