Beaufort Manor Guest House Beaufort West |
Beaufort
Manor Guest House is located Beaufort West, Western Cape in South Africa. During the
turbulence and the tranquility of nearly two centuries, Beaufort West has been
a haven for travellers in the vastness that is the Great Karoo. Down these
many years, the stream of travellers has been without end - explorers,
scientists, officials, fortune hunters, artists, actors, journalists, outlaws,
simple working folk and one of the largest armies ever to leave Britain's
shores and the Boer soldiers they had come to fight. But much earlier on Lord
Charles Somerset, Governor of the Cape of Good Hope, was perturbed by the
"inexcusable excesses", as he couched it, "on this part of the frontier", and
on November 27, 1818, he proclaimed the town of Beaufort West so that
officialdom could run things on a tighter rein. The town was named in honour
of his father, the fifth Duke of Beaufort.
And so it was that in modern times Beaufort Manor found its elegant corner in
the town's historic core. The Manor and its extensive grounds lie next to the
town's Springfontein Dam, designed in the 19th century by a Scottish engineer,
Avon Bruce-Brand, once Queen Victoria's bodyguard. Beyond the reception area,
dining room and sitting rooms with their genteel air, Beaufort Manor offers
eight designer suites that epitomise elegance and luxury. The rooms are all
equipped with television (MNET and DSTV-channels), bar fridge,
air-conditioning, hair dryers and coffee / tea making facilities, as well as
the necessary bathroom amenities. Honeymoon couples can spend the night in
host
Romantic honeymoon-suite, where fresh flowers and complimentary sparkling wine
awaits their arrival.
All of which makes Beaufort Manor not so much an overnight stop, but an
elegant way of life to its clientele. For those travellers who like to do
their own thing there are five self-catering, open-plan cottages in the shade
of ancient blue gum trees, where the only invasion of privacy is the sound of
swans and ducks in their pond. Each has an en-suite bathroom and fully
equipped kitchen and sleeps up to four. The cottages are also equipped with
TV's, air-conditioning, hair dryers and coffee / tea facilities. Please
enquire about Braai-facilities. Beaufort Manor offers tasteful Karoo dinners,
by candle light, either in host dining room or under the brilliant stars during
summer months. Choose a bottle of wine to accompany your three course meal,
served by host friendly staff. Guests can expect dishes such as host famous Leg
of Lamb, home made chicken pie, bobotie, mouth-watering gammon and organic
vegetables straight from host Garden. Please book to avoid disappointment.
Guests are invited to relax in host cosy bar, which boasts a wide variety of
whiskeys and brandies, to mention but a few. Establishment even stock "witblits" for the
adventurous and daring. A selection of cigars is also available. From the
courtyard, with its center piece a pond, in which koi peacefully patrol between
fountains, steps lead down to the saltwater swimming pool. To the side of
these water features stands a wide observation deck; a place to enjoy Karoo
views with a quiet drink in the crisp air, far from the mechanical madness of
highways.
